Practical development solutions in humanitarian assistance, food security, education and youth development, environment, energy and data science
OVERVIEW
The PARI Tech Acceleration and Innovation Lab (PTAIL) forges practical development solutions in humanitarian assistance, food security, education and youth development, environment, energy and data science. Researchers affiliated with PTAIL explore the following issues:
- The complexities of humanitarian crises and effective strategies for delivering aid
- Sustainable agricultural practices, nutrition and food distribution systems to enhance global food availability and supply chain resilience
- Sustainable conservation practices and strategies and renewable energy solutions to protect natural resources
- Data that uncovers insights and informs evidence-based policies and interventions to ensure a comprehensive, impactful approach to solving the most pressing global issues
Global Development & Innovation (GDI)
GDI collaborates with faculty, students, and staff to work alongside key stakeholders in low- and middle-income countries, aiming to co-create solutions that ensure sustainable, measurable, and equitable impacts. Designed to simplify the process of applying for and receiving funding for applied research projects, GDI supports Purdue faculty with an innovative approach that allows for swift and efficient action within Purdue's framework, which maximizes researcher’s ability address critical needs to primary stakeholders. GDI also secures grants from USAID and other funding bodies to tackle urgent, complex, and systemic issues.
Digital Innovation in Agri-food Systems Laboratory (DIAL)
DIAL Ventures addresses significant challenges across the globe, including food safety, supply chain disruptions, sustainability and environmental impacts. DIAL uses a three-pronged strategy to enhance the quality of life within the distributed manufacturing system: 1) A venture studio that forms and de-risks startups by leveraging deep industry partnerships for ideation and concept development; 2) A fellowship program that identifies and nurtures successful entrepreneurs and founders; and 3) Co-investment opportunities for industry partners in our studio portfolio companies.
University Consortium for Health, Food and Agricultural Resilience (HFAR)
HFAR is a collaboration among land grant universities, the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Health Security (OHS), and industry partners. HFAR is dedicated to enhancing the readiness, response, and mitigation strategies necessary to protect the nation’s public health, food, and agricultural sectors. HFAR spearheads the creation of a dynamic national research agenda designed to strengthen the U.S. food, agriculture, and veterinary systems, thereby safeguarding public health from intentional attacks and unforeseen disasters.
